Here are a few simple concepts that may help you with your prayer life.
Entering into prayer is entering into a conversation with God. It is good to leave some time for listening, as well as time for talking.
Your prayer does not need to be perfect, or beautiful, or well-constructed. It just needs to be an honest and open communication with God about what is on your mind and in your heart. God wants to be in conversation with you in your life. You don’t need to wait until you have the perfect words or understanding to pray, simply pray from where you are as you are. God will take care of the rest.
Prayer is not a way for you to make something happen or force something to happen. You may find that in your prayer you are asking God for the deepest desires of your heart. It is good to do this. After you pray, you may find that your desires are met in amazing and miraculous ways. When this happens, this is a time to rejoice and to be thankful in your prayer time. However, prayer is also about letting go, acknowledging that you are not responsible for every outcome, and that what you desire may not come to pass. When you pray with this understanding, you open yourself to the possibility of extraordinary spiritual growth.
